The official website for Something Wicked Studios

12/23/2015 - News, this way comes!

As a new feature of the Something Wicked Studio blog we’re going to be bringing you all a rundown of the gaming news of the week. Seeing as this is the inaugural post for this feature and it happens to be a Holiday week we hope you’ll forgive us if some of this news is actually from last week.

December 21 - Activision announced the release date on PS4 for the new map pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. The DLC, titled Awakening, includes a new map for the Zombies co-op mode and four maps for competitive multiplayer and will be released February 2, 2016 on PS4.

This will be the first time that the early release of DLC for Black Ops will be exclusive to the Sony platform. During the previous console generation, the XBOX 360 was the platform of choice for Call of Duty fans, but with the PS4 heavily outselling the XBOX One Activision has shifted marketing focus to the Sony console. For a peek at the new maps and more details check out the official Trailer.

December 15 - Bungie, creator of the Halo franchise and developer of Destiny recently announced the addition of booster packs to their game. For $30 Destiny players can take a level 0 character and jump straight to level 25 as well as max out their sub-class of choice and accelerate their weapon leveling considerably. The move came on the heels of the addition of in-game currency purchasable with real world money. Bungie has said the microtransactions will be used to fund the Destiny events team.

December 23 - In a post to the official Playstation blog Neil Druckmann, Creative director at Naughty Dog  and Bruce Straley, Game Director of Uncharted 4, announced that Uncharted 4: A Thief's End has been delayed. Citing the need to polish some key sequences Druckmann, and Straley named April 26, 2016 as the game’s new release date. The Previous date had been March 18, 2016 so this will only be a delay of a little over a month. Delays are always disappointing but at least it isn’t too long.

December 15 - Finally, Hideo Kojima, Director of the Metal Gear series of games, founded a new studio in partnership with Sony. Fans of Kojima’s games were greatly disappointed when he was dismissed from Metal Gear developer Konami earlier this year. Then, fans were even more disappointed when news leaked that Kojima was bound by the terms of his severance to not develop games for some time. The news that the terms of Kojima’s contract have expired and that he has founded a new studio is a welcome relief to fans. Little is know about the new studio will be aside from the name, Kojima Productions. If you’d like to see thee full video of the announcement it is available on YouTube.

That about does it for this week’s news. What do you guys think? Excited for new Kojima Games and COD maps? Disappointed about the Uncharted delay and more microtransactions?

Happy Holidays!
