1/22/2017 - News This Way Comes...
Welcome to your weekly rundown of the week's gaming news!!
January 15 - Awesome Games Done Quick happened. The winter edition of the bi-annual speed-running festival, Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ), concluded after raising more than $2.2 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. In comparison, last year’s event raised $1.2 million. More than half of the total funds raised at winter AGDQ were donated in the last twelve hours of the event. In case you missed the action, the streams are archived on YouTube.
Some of the notable runs of the event included:
Dark Souls III
January 17 - Swery64 returned to game development. Hidetaka “Swery64” Suehiro is a game developer who was probably best known for bizarre games like Deadly Premonition and D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die until he took a break from the games industry for health reasons in 2015. Now Swery has formed White Owls Studio in Osaka, Japan and is hard at work on a new game.
Welcome back Swery!!
January 18 - Nintendo showed off three upcoming Fire Emblem games for Mobile, Switch, and 3DS in their first Nintendo Direct of 2017.
Fire Emblem Heroes will be Nintendo’s new mobile offering following on the heels of their first mobile title released last year, Super Mario Run. The game is a character collecting strategy game, think Pokemon with fantasy people. Fire Emblem Heroes will be a free to play game including microtransactions and Nintendo has a contest to determine which characters from the series’ massive roster will be included in the game. The release date for Fire Emblem Heroes has not been announced at this time.
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia is a 3DS remaster of the second game in the Fire Emblem Gaiden series which was released only in Japan in 1992. The game will be a departure from what western players know of the Fire Emblem series, featuring less of the grid based strategy and more dungeon crawling. Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia will be released on May 19, along with two new Amiibo.
Finally Fire Emblem Warriors, the Dynasty Warriors style Fire Emblem being developed by Koei Tecmo Games, will be coming to the Switch and 3DS platforms this Summer.
January 18 - EA announced the dates for their EA Play event. This will be the second of the E3 style events from the publishing giant. EA has apparently learned from last year’s event that scheduling a games event in Los Angeles at the same time as E3 kind of splits the audience a bit. This year EA play will take place the week before E3, June 10th to 12th at the Hollywood Palladium.
But Now for some truly important news. Something Wicked Studios has added not one but two new videos to our YouTube channel!! Our long collective nightmare is over!! Rejoice my friends!!
Let us know what you think of the new Videos.
Also is it weird that Nintendo held a Fire Emblem direct and didn't really talk about any core Fire Emblem games?
