4/23/2017 - News This Way Comes...
Welcome to your weekly rundown of gaming news!
April 19 - ESA will let exhibitors sell Merch at E3 for the first time. According to a note to Exhibitors uncovered by ShackNews, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) will allow merchandise to be sold on the floor of the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) for the first time.
April 20 - DotA 2 now requires a phone number for Ranked matchmaking. The most recent update for Valve’s popular MOBA added a new requirement for ranked matchmaking. Players who want to know just exactly how good they are at DotA 2 now must connect a mobile phone number to their account. The move is an attempt to tamp down on smurfing, the practice of players using multiple accounts at different skill levels, among other forms of gaming malfeasance.
April 21 - It’s official, the rumors are true, the next Call of Duty will be set in World War 2. The game’s publisher, Activision, revealed almost no details about the game aside from the title Call of Duty: World War II, and the developer, Sledgehammer Games. An official livestream is scheduled for April 26 at 10am PDT, so keep an eye on the game's website for that.
That about does it for this week’s news.
I don’t know about the timing of this Call of Duty setting change: A lot of fans might identify too much with the Nazis these days.
Anyway, hacky political snark aside, let’s take a peek at what’s been happening over on the Something Wicked YouTube.
