5/7/2017 - News This Way Comes...
Welcome to your weekly update on the week’s gaming news.
May 1 - Pro DOTA 2 powerhouse team OG defeated team Virtus Pro in the ‘Kiev Major’ tournament. The Kiev Major was the last DOTA 2 tournament of the year before The International 7 (TI7), DOTA’s biggest tournament of the year. TI7 and the Kiev Major are funded by Valve, DOTA 2’s publisher. The win marked OG’s fourth Valve funded tournament victory in a row. For those unfamiliar with the competitive DOTA scene, Valve sponsored events like TI7 and the Majors dominate the competitive DOTA world with smaller tournaments sponsored by other companies serving as a bit of a farm system for smaller teams and younger players. Considering the fact that the Valve funded Majors are usually the most competitive contests, OG’s win streak becomes even more impressive.
May 2 - Following a high profile leak, the existence of Darksiders 3 was revealed by publisher THQ Nordic. The Darksiders series was widely considered finished after the original THQ declared bankruptcy in 2012. After the bankruptcy and following auction of THQ’s intellectual property, the copyright for Darksiders ended up in the hands of THQ Nordic, then just Nordic Studio. Apparently just owning the copyright wasn’t enough so THQ Nordic made Darksiders 3 and now the game is officially announced, slated for a 2018 release and has the following trailer:
